Bible in 90 Days | Luke 10 – 19: Day 76

May 22, 2013 — 3 Comments

Got behind again over the weekend. Got a lot of work done, but failed to crack open my Bible or Bible app. #Fail. Back at it today.

I’m trying my best to finish reading the Bible through in 90 days. Maybe not 90 consecutive days… but 90 days none the less. Join me. Click here for more information on the ESV Bible in 90 day plan that I am doing.

Luke 10

Jesus sends out 72 to heal the sick and proclaim that the kingdom of God has come. They return later in the chapter and give an account of the mission. Some listen. Some don’t. Some are healed. Others aren’t.

Luke also tells the parable of the good samaritan. Here in Luke a radical story about a jew taking care of his neighbor who is an outcast Samaritan. Maybe even lower than tax collectors!

Luke 11

Also in Luke is the Lord’s Prayer. It is mentioned in Matthew too, but here the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. He also tells them that whatever they ask it will be given to them out of the goodness of God. We know that people ask for healing and God does not heal the way we want Him. I may want a porsche, but God isn’t going to make one appear in my driveway. This isn’t prosperity gospel being taught. This is truth. To know what we need is to know God better.

Jesus casts out some more demons. He tells them that blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Signs are for evil generations. We’ve already seen all we need to know to believe.

Pharisees love to be seated at the place of honor, but they don’t understand any of it. Woe to them and their lack of understanding.

Luke 12

Do not be anxious about anything in your life. God will feed and clothe and protect. It is his pleasure to give us the Kingdom. We must not worry. We must also be ready. He is coming soon.

Luke 13

Jesus reminds us how narrow the door is that we must go through for salvation. It is available to all, but he says that many will seek it and not find it. Amazing Love! Thank you God for leading me the right way so that I was able to find the door.

Luke 14

We have to hate our own life in order to be His disciple. That is tough to hear and even harder to comprehend. Just a few chapters before, he says that everything we need will be given to us. I can’t imagine what would be of my life without my wife and children, yet here I am supposed to lay the totality of my foundation in Christ. Nothing else is important. Renounce ALL that I have? Wow.

Luke 15

There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 persons who need no repentance. He searches after and longs for the individual. Rejoicing comes over every one.

The prodigal son’s story is often about the son. Sometimes about the brother. The father’s statements are pretty remarkable. “You are always with me and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad!”

Luke 16

One who is faithful in little will be faithful in much. One who is dishonest in little is dishonest in much. If you haven’t been faithful in unrighteous wealth, Who will entrust to you true riches? You cannot serve God and money.

Luke 17

When Jesus cleanses the 10 lepers, only one of them turned back and praised God with a loud voice… oh, and he was a samaritan. Jesus tells him to rise and go on his way. He said that his faith made him well (whole.)

Regarding the Kingdom… Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.

Luke 18

In a parable about the pharisee and a tax collector, the contempt and arrogance that the pharisee has is insane. It is a reminder of us to be constantly humble and thankful for the grace which God has given us. Only those who are humbled will be exalted.

Whoever doesn’t receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.

Luke 19

Zacchaeus. Great story. I always think about how we put barriers and obstacles in the way of those who want to see Jesus. We may focus so much on Him too, that we fail to look around and see those on the perimeter who are trying to get a glance at him.
